AnyBeat Brings A New Social Media Network To Facebook Competition

An interesting new launch to Facebook and Social Media Networks is AnyBeat. I like its format so far and it is still probably too new to judge. Its doesnt seem to want to be a Facebook “killer” but a niche resource for people of common interests. In terms of Identity you can use pseudonyms on AnyBeat.

According to its site: “Anybeat is an online community, a public gathering place where you can interact with people from around your neighborhood or across the world. We don’t expect Anybeat to replace Facebook, Twitter, or any other service that you currently use. Instead, we hope that you will find it to be a casual place to gather and communicate with interesting people.

Here are some core principles behind Anybeat:

We don’t require you to use your official first and last name. If you want to use a pseudonym (username only), that’s just fine with us. In fact, we encourage you to consider using a pseudonym, as that allows you to be much more free in your communication. Of course you are welcome to use your official name as well, and we give you controls to choose who gets to see it. A good discussion of the value of pseudonyms can be found here: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2011/07/case-pseudonyms

Unlike Facebook, Twitter, or Google +, we DON’T want to be your global online identity or login to other sites. Therefore, we DON’T follow you across the web, or collect any information about your web browsing habits outside of Anybeat. On that same note, we DON’T log/record any of your Instant Messaging conversations.

While other social networks are built specifically to help you manage relationships you already have, Anybeat is meant to help you meet new people, and expand your social circles. Therefore, we encourage you to contact people that you don’t know personally, and strike up a conversation. This is a friendly place, so please respect others, and if you don’t wish to communicate with someone that has reached out to you, simply let them know or just ignore their contact.”

Hopefully, I’ll have an interview soon with them.
