Facebook announced they are doing more to fight “Likes” from fake accounts and bots. Facebook Like sellers beware!
There have been complaints by companies that their Likes have been fraudulently boosted with fake accounts by Like Sellers. The other complaint has been that scripted bots, likely from competitors, have been suspected at clicking on Facebook ads and Like campaigns by companies significantly driving up their ad costs. If you are a business advertising on Facebook this can get costly.
Facebook is saying they will be removing Likes that have been found to be fraudulently generated. For most people they say it should not affect less than 1% of Likes on any given page.
From their site: “These newly improved automated efforts will remove those Likes gained by malware, compromised accounts, deceived users, or purchased bulk Likes. While we have always had dedicated protections against each of these threats on Facebook, these improved systems have been specifically configured to identify and take action against suspicious Likes.”
What do you think about fake likes and Facebook Like sellers?
”For most people they say it should not affect less than 1% of Likes on any given page.”? I have problem with believing that ‘fake likes’ are only 1%.
I really do not like FAKE anything. It just seem like a valuable waste of time. I think that unfortunately even that they say it is less than 1%, I think it is much higher than that.
The above sounds good. What are the implications for EA, however, which can be a mixed bag. Sometimes we like things because we genuinely like them, sometimes we like them because we like to help the cause which is obviously important to the page owner even if we are not particularly familiar or homely with the content ourselves, and sometimes I’m sure many would embark on a Like-fest simply because they’ve been enticed to by being offered eaves. I usually check the page out first to see if it’s something that I would feel comfortable with liking anyway, and forego the eaves if the only reason for liking is for the eaves reward. Is Facebook concerned about EA style liking.
Seems like a necessary step for Facebook to avoid devaluing their brand from automated services.
Oh I didn’t know there was such thing as buying likes.
I must admit, I really enjoyed being able to listen to your post, while I looked at other pages. It inspired me to come back and leave a comment!
Thanks
first FB closed playful Cosplay accounts; now they are changing the game rules for some. Is FB anti-Capitalist, or will this benefit the 1% Corps? ‡¡‡
