“I have read hundreds of business advice books, but this one stands out. Every chapter has a great life lesson. Great for anyone who wants inspiration and to learn so much from someone who has done an incredible array of experiences.” -Gary Shapiro, President and CEOConsumer Technology Association, producer of CES®

I love your concept of looking at a blog not only as loss leaders but as a way of giving back. I agree with you that many, including you Chris, are giving away valuable content and intellectual property free – but don't stop many of us do appreciate it and it has taken us to the next level! Thank You!
Thank you very much, no sooner had I cut this video but someone called me expressing how much they appreciated my work and it had really helped them. They were a small upstart.
Chris: You hit a home run on this one and I have to tell you, I get more out of your content the most others. I started blogging earlier this year and have put a lot of time an effort into it. I like to share ideas, promote thought and connect. While I agree it's a lost leader, the knowledge gained by creating my content in invaluable. In addition, it does help drive traffic to my site and help build connections with like minded colleagues. It is something you have to want and like to do. While I am not getting paid directly for the efforts, there is nothing like a simple comment or tweet from someone who took the time to read the posts and give me feedback. It gets me pumped and motivates me to keep going. Thanks for sharing. and look forward to the next one. TW
Thanks Todd.
I admire your honesty and experience. I think people would find http://thechrisvossshow.ning.com really useful too. Keep doing what you do.
It’s great that you are talking from a business perspective about social media and blogging. I agree. It’s a loss leader. However, I talk a different view, and that is that if something cannot generate more directly measurable income, then I have to limit the resources that go into it. I understand the general point here, and there are reasons to support both ways of doing things.
Hey Chris, excellent thoughts on the “loss leader” concept. It’s one of the first things I learned when I worked at Office Max years ago. Their strategy involved selling 5 and 10 ream boxes of copy paper at cost. It definitely brought in more customers. Keep crushin’, Steve D.
Great Stuff Chris! Learning a lot from your Video Posts! Thanks!
Great post Chris. Another key aspect to blogging in addition to the loss leader and being charitable is how it gives everyone a voice and allows us to connect with new great people. As bloggers we have the opportunity to share our thoughts which is a release. People who comment get this release too as well as giving bloggers and readers great conversations that get us all thinking.
