I do not use TrueTwit but I have received those DM also.
I ignored them for a long time because I didn't know what they were..but in the last few days I have begun answering them and validating.
I didnt have to join anything, I just put the correct captcha in and it was a done deal.
I dont like it much either but I do it because it gives my followers peace of mind.
God Bless 'em all.

Chris, I'm not sure I agree with your assessment about it being spammy, but I do know that it's basically put a stop to the porn sites that were following me like flies on you know what. I've turned it off after watching your video. In some ways I think it's slowed my followers growth numbers, but like I said, it also stopped the garbage followers I was getting before I tried it. Donny, I'd advise you shouldnt care who follows you – the more you have the more you can grow. No one cares who follows you and who ever does spend that much time needs to get a life. Always move forward.

I am relatively new to Twitter and have been using TrueTwit because I found myself following MLM machines and not real people. I thought this service might solve that problem and for me, it seems to have worked well. My follow count has increased substatially to over 1000, all real people, many of whom I have classified on different interest lists. I never thought about the service as also being a “spam”. I want to contact everyone who follows me with a thank you and TrueTwit has allowed me to accomplish the without spending a great deal of time. I respect your views on this and subscribe to your blog, but I find myself confused. Hackers got to my Twiitter account a few months ago sending all my followers some stupid game. I changed my password and my Twitter name and that took care of the problem, but being a neophite at this game it absorbed a huge hunk of my time. Would appreciate any wise words. Thank You and have a great day! Cheers!

agreed on truetwit, it is pretty easy to tell who's spamming on twitter, you shouldn't need a bot to go through your list, if you do then your not really on twitter your self and not getting the whole social thing. Good post Chris, thanks

Wow, you must be the busiest person on the planet that you don't have time to type 6-8 characters into a field?
Marie
Wait … he shouldn't care who follows him? Really? If you're trying to build a a targeted community of like-minded people, associations, and brands that are in line with what you and/or your business are all about, shouldn't your goal be more focused on the quality of your list of followers instead of quantity? You realize that the people you allow to follow you speaks volumes about you and your business, right?
“No one cares who follows you …” Really? I'm working to attract quality followers, not spammer bots, people who only follow me so they can try to sell to me and sleaze-balls. Social Media has made it a very small world and I'm well aware that who I am and what I do (and who I allow to associate with me in the social media world) is VERY easy for clients and prospects alike to discover.
If you think who follows you doesn't matter to anyone, you are either ignorant, delusional, or need a good course in how social media affects one's business and bottom line.

TrueTwit it's pure blackmail because they don't give you an option to NOT sent any DMs even if you sing up for their stupid service so if you singup to stop receiving those messeges you, yourself will be sending some I think it would work to edit that 200 to 1 but I also found another way to do it…
great video btw…

Oh yeah – the TrueTwit thingy – gee Chris that's how we met! ha ha! Marie – I'm not sure that you can really stop people from following you on Twitter unless your account is private, least that's what i recall when I signed up way back when…and if you're on private it is difficult to grow followers it seems to me.
Chris – I did find the verifier was worthwhile in that I got fewer insincere ppl following me… Also I enjoyed that I could set up a personal thank you message and that I could auto-follow so long as they verified themselves. I found that was a, I thought, useful feature. i also liked getting an e-mail message letting me know someone new was following so that I could check them out. Whereas i otherwise felt out of touch with the growing list of followers! That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! he he! But seriously – what other service of it's kind is available?
Also I never felt spammed myself – perhaps you've been getting reminders from the system because you didn't verify for someone you tried to follow so their account is set with a reminder to prod you…? Sounds like that's the prob.
Maybe the developers could make it less rude? There's always two sides to the coin isn't there?

you have converted me! i liked it before but now i think it is silly! thanks. never thought of it as extortion! but now i do. go forth and conquer! http://iget2work.com good stuff!

True-Twit sucks. The solution I found that works for my account and everyone I work with is to sign up and set the truetwit limit to sending only 1 DM per day. I haven't tried 0, I don't feel like it's worth the effort to check it out. Sign up, set it and forget it.

I have come full circle on TrueTwit. Initially did not like it at all. Then, I decided to use it when Twitter became very spammy.
A couple of months ago, I stopped using it (because of % who have adverse reactions to it). Pleased to be able to report that I am not being inundated with spamsters. My sense is that Twitter itself has stepped up its patrolling, and more people are reporting spamsters.
The service served me well for a time, but I no longer find it necessary. Like so much of the net, what works well for a time, is not likely to work well forever.

When I receive a validation request (usually after I try to follow back) I simply cancel any ideas of following someone. Just seems crazy: you follow me and in an attempt at reciprocating I have to prove I’m real to a bot!
