The AI-Human Paradox: What Artificial Intelligence Reveals About Consciousness and the Future of Being Human by Bruce D Randall

We’re teaching machines to think. Who’s teaching us to be conscious?
Although AI can process a billion data points in seconds, it lacks any capacity to sit in silence and know that it exists.
At this time in world history, humanity stands at an unprecedented crossroads. Artificial intelligence is reshaping every dimension of life–how we work, create, connect, and even understand reality itself. However, in the race to build smarter machines, we’ve neglected the deeper question: What is the intelligence that no machine can manufacture?
The AI-Human Paradox explores the territory between the algorithm and awareness, between computational power and the quiet force of consciousness. Written by a software consulting professional with decades of experience in the technology industry–who is also a mediator and Reiki Master–this book bridges two worlds that rarely speak to each other, and as such reveals why their conversation is the most important of our times.
Inside, you’ll discover:
Why the rise of AI makes human consciousness more essential–not less.
The paths that artificial and human intelligence may walk together–or apart.
What meditation, energy work, and contemplative traditions reveal about the limits of machines.
A vision for a future in which technology serves awakening rather replacing it.
This is not a book for technologists or spiritual seekers alone. Instead, it’s for anyone who has felt the tension between a world moving faster and a should asking to go deeper.
About the author
Bruce D. Randall has spent thirty years inside the technology industry and twenty years sitting still.
That tension —enterprise software leadership at companies like Oracle and AT&T on one side, two decades of contemplative practice on the other — is what his books are built to hold. He writes about artificial intelligence and quantum computing with a combination almost no one brings to the subject: the fluency of someone who has actually sold and deployed these systems at scale, and the skepticism of someone who has spent years watching his own mind and knows the difference between a capability and a claim.
His work is deliberately anti-hype. Where the industry promises revolution, Randall asks for the evidence — and when the evidence isn’t there, he says so, on the page, in plain language. His books are fact-checked to a standard most technology writing never attempts, because he believes readers deserve to know which claims are proven and which are merely sold.
He currently serves as fractional CEO of a technology group, so the questions he writes about are not abstract to him — they are the ones he is answering in the room, under real stakes, right now.
Across The AI Human Paradox, The Quantum Human Paradox, and The QAI Human Paradox, he traces a single widening question: as machines grow more capable, what remains distinctly, irreducibly human? In The End of Smart, he turns the lens on intelligence itself — and on what happens to a society built to reward it when intelligence stops being scarce. What his experience revealed about getting a job today.
One line runs through all of it: Power seizes. Consciousness receives.
Bruce holds a Data Science certificate from MIT and also holds an AI product management certification, and lives on the coast of Massachusetts.
