Nexus One Biggest Flop
UPDATE 4 – Google Discontinues the Nexus One Android Phone Probably a good example of a poor launch, marketing and support of a highly taunted phone. Sadly, it was an opportunity to change the game of selling unlocked phones, wresting control form providers but it will likely be tried again. Sorry to say – I told you so on this one.
UPDATE 3 – Google admits flop –
UPDATE 2 – RIGHT AGAIN – NEXUS IS A FLOP – “Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. mobile-phone company, retreated from plans to offer service for Google Inc.’s Nexus One phone, saying it will focus on other Android-powered handsets instead.” “It’s really a flop for Google” Bloomberg Link
UPDATE 1 – WELL I WAS RIGHT – ITS A DUD. THE SALES HAVE BOMBED ON NEXUS ONE. WHILE IN TURN iPHONE SALES HAVE JUMPED 130+%.
Google released its new Google Phone and there has been a lot of buzz surrounding it. I have some thoughts on it.
One, I think Google is smart in continuing to monopolize everything, note that you now have to buy the phone directly from them. I think this will revolutionize the industry which in the end may not be as good for carriers and create more competition. More control is being moved to the designers and manufacturers. The other thing is, they are selling unlocked phones that can be used worldwide on any compatable network. Hopefully, this will help this silly game of locking phones by carriers, come to an end.
There is a price to pay for it. I guess many people are now finding in the fine print. Evidently, if you cancel the two year contract with T-Mobile you will not only pay them a hefty early cancellation fee, it almost double as you will also owe Google an almost similar cancellation fee. Google charges an “Equipment Recovery Fee” of $350 if you cancel their service before 120 days have passed. Essentially, doubling your penalty from what you would pay with other phones.
There also is a lot of chatter about this dual mobile controller concept, that customer service issues are trying to be handled by Google on discussion boards without any customer service phone support. Which sounds like a nightmare currently. Customers are stuck between Google and T-Mobile trying to figure out which of them fixes which parts of their phone. Not a bright concept really.
Uh, my iPhone with the sh*tty AT&T coverage still sounds pretty good considering the graphs below. The newest iPhone is already beta testing in the wilds of San Fransisco Metropolis and hopefully will come out this year with an even better iPhone and camera (rumored). Thanks Google. But, no thanks.
Moto.com did a screen test of the phones and found that iPhone won. Light pressure on the other phones confused their screen recognition to draw straight lines. You can see their results here: http://labs.moto.com/
Hi, Interesting to hear that Google are considering offering a refund to disgruntled existing t-mobile providers of $100 after a deluge of complaints from existing t-mobile users
Wow that is funny
————————————————–
I think I need both, the iPhone I have already, but I want to test the Android Wave as well.. ;))
That means Google has refund price after less penalty what we would pay with other phones.
Thanks

Since you just just tweeted this post (2/14/09 8:10 AM) as if it's new, I think you need to fact check it again. Google lowered the ETF to $150 a week ago. This ETF only applies if you buy the phone subsidized, which is a bad idea for those who aren't cash strapped. Buy the unlocked phone and get a contract free plan ($20/mo cheaper than contracted plans) to save $120+ over the life of a two year contract.
I submit that if you actually used a Nexus One for at least week or two, you'd find it a much more powerful device than the iPhone. I've dumped my iPhone 3G[s] in lieu of the Nexus One. I had purchased it just to test it and see what the hype was all about, fully intending to return it within the 30 day test period allowed in California. I've decided to keep it, and have no regrets. It's a fantastic device with none of the games Apple has with its lockdown/walled-garden approach to the iPhone and the App Store.
As far as 150,000 apps vs 20,000…With just a few exceptions, EVERY app I had on the iPhone has an equivalent app on Android. How many of those 150,000 iPhone apps are fart makers, flashlights, tip calculators, and other easy to make apps with dozens and dozens of clones? iPhone has the edge in games, but for productive adults, there's little to no edge in the App Store over Google's Android Market.

What i say This is really excellent for me and my friends and i would like to know more about this….
Considering the sales of the nexus one have been disastrous by comparison to
the iPhone have 130%+ jump in sales, you may be the only one left with that
phone when the platform goes bust, lol

you sound like an apple-fan-boy! and the way you have replied to the below commenters as being sarcastic is totally un-professional!
Seriously what a joke, your level of ignorance dumbfounds me. I have used both Iphone 3gs and nexus one, and nexus is way better than the iPhone in features and Andorid Os's capabilities.
The fact that you can make a comparison post without using both makes this post totally worthless.
Yeah you got some numbers in there. ITs just Phone got the marketing part right. whereas google's marketing gamble failed big time. Half the people dont know even that nexus one exists out there.
Im not putting down iPhone . iPhone is a grat phone its beautiful, its got a simplistic design, but for those people who want more out of their phone, get a nexus one.
Hey Chris-
This is a pretty biased comparison- Yes, I am a Nexus One owner. I am happy with it because when I bought it the monthly plan and initial purchase were cheaper than the iPhone – much cheaper. Plus, you're not tied in to AT&T which, at the time, and still in many places, sucks for reception/download speed. Also, you could run more than 1 app at once on the NexusOne, which you couldn't do on the iPhone. And, NexusOne offers an insurance/replacement plan (important when you shell out big money for a phone) and Apple/AT&T doesn't.
The number of apps available is an incredibly misleading stat because the average iPhone user has 8 apps on their phone and has probably investigated less than a few hundred others – much less 18,000 or even 120,000 – and every app I have has an equivalent for the iPhone anyway.
Also, you get much smoother interface with Google apps – like Google voice – not perfect, but no faster way to ck vmail. And the mic which allows me to dictate my emails and text messages. All in all, despite the roll out speed bumps, the phone rocks.
More than anything I think it's Apple's superior PR and marketing abilities in electronics that's made it so wildly popular – they own the 'hip' factor -and routinely win over influence-peddlers like you. Google's still a bunch of geeks who have a lot to learn about marketing and gaining the big mo. If Apple were marketing the NexusOne it would be a totally different ballgame – who can deny that?

Been following you on Twitter for some time now. I love your swag. You missed it on this one though. This is BY FAR, the best mobile unit available, and will still be available for developers in years to come. The possibilities are endless, with the Droid X & Evo still lagging behind. Love you Chris, but tech stars like me, Pete Cashmore & Leporte know the power of this unit. Get on board bro!!!
Thanks, You’d better call consumers and Google and tell them cause I didnt
kill it they did. LOL.
