Business People: When you started your business, did you start it to sell your product or service to a few hundred or thousand people and then QUIT?
– Did you always want to catch a ride on the latest future trend or big idea?
– When companies advertise, they advertise to the most massive audience they can, given their budget. They know that even with millions of contacts, only a small percentage of them will become clients.
– If I offered you an EMPLOYEE for FREE, that would WORK 24/7, selling Internationally, NO benefits or retirement plans needed, WOULD YOU TURN ME DOWN?
– If I offered you ADDITIONAL “PROMOTERS” who would pass around your shared links to their followers and you didnt have to pay them, would you say NO?
SO LET ME ASK YOU THIS, WHY ON TWITTER/SOCIAL MEDIA IS YOUR BUSINESS PRESENCE LIKELY FAILING? YOU HAVE THE FUTURE TRENDS OF ADVERTISING, ITS FREE FREE FREE AND I SEE BUSINESS’ ON TWITTER LAMELY SITTING WITH UP TO A FEW THOUSAND FOLLOWERS AND NO SOCIAL MEDIAL “GAME plan!”
– If you have less than 5000 Followers on Twitter less on Facebook, do you understand that maybe 1-10% of those people are actually listening to you. Dell makes MILLIONS off Twitter, on one account @delloutlet THEY HAVE 1.15 Million Followers. YOU NEED TO GROW YOUR AUDIENCE.
– Branding and Presence: No one cares that your name on Social Media is “xyz, inc”, you have to convince people to care and get to identify with your brand through its REPUTATION AND PERSONALITY online. Just like your local community or client – YOU HAVE TO BUILD AND MAINTAIN YOUR REPUTATION ONLINE.
Shared Links are huge, they enable people and websites to promote your shared links and drive your advertising even further!
– DO YOU KNOW THIS TREND MAY BE LEAVING YOU BEHIND AGAINST YOUR COMPETITION. Social Media is the fastest growing advertising media and the future of online advertising. YOU NEED TO GET GROWING RIGHT NOW.
Did you know:
* Twitter users spend 66% more dollars on the Internet than non-Twitter users, says market researcher ComScore.
* Companies are making Millions off Twitter and Social Media.
* Smartphones power the trend. The mobile social-networking industry is expected to become a $3.3 billion market worldwide by 2013, ABI Research predicts.
* Why are Ford, Levi Strauss and Chevron, to name a few — reengineering marketing operations to embrace digital tools to more nimbly brand products, support customers and cash in on the social-media wave. In doing so, they are creating online communities and aggressive outreach programs, and being brutally honest in talking directly to their customers/followers/fans/friends.
* AND DID I MENTION SOCIAL MEDIA IS FREE TO JOIN AND OPERATE. FREE. Call TV, Radio, Newspaper and Online Ads reps and ask them if you can advertise your business for FREE? Just like everything else its may not be free forever, so now is the time is to get in and jump start your business.
*Social Media can explode the traffic going to your website ALMOST OVERNIGHT!

Wow – that is impressive….Good to know.
Agree with all this. How to get more twitter followers while still being organic- ideas?
Also- how can I prevent being ‘spammy’ – that is my biggest fear.

Hi Chris,
This is interesting to know. I guess the real value of Twitter is that you have the opportunity to build relationships. I have made wonderful contacts on Twitter and love how people's personalities shine through their marketing efforts. It's always good to know a little bit about the person behind the brand.
Warm wishes

The reason most companies flounder around with their social media marketing is that it is HARD WORK. Getting more than 5k followers and continuing to engage with them regularly takes full time activity. So if you are a painting company with 30 painters, 15 trucks and do $3 Million in annual revenues – the prospect of spending the requisite time to develop a SMM plan is a non-starter. They either have to hire an agency (the real point of the article, I suppose) or hire someone in-house. Regardless, its a full time job. For most micro/small businesses – say under $5 Million, it makes a lot more sense to set up Adwords, maybe Facebook ads and maybe some basic SEO – read some Perry Marshall and Bruce Clay and you can do this yourself. Many of these companies simply don’t have the time to spend a couple hours a day fostering the social media plan. The idea is to get new customers. For most micro/smb’s converting new clients can’t be done with Twitter in the same volume as can be done with Google, FB, and offline. The examples cited, like Dell….these guys have teams of people dedicated to this and they offer a hard product. Much different creature than a local landscaping company with revenues at 500k….
All that said – Twitter is a powerful tool and should absolutely be used for the right company. So I agree with the article in large part, just not for all businesses.
Thanks for the insight. The Social Media indeed has become an important tool in advertising. And as advertisers, it is important to be at par with competition. These Social Media Network makes it easier to target the market the company needs through the readily available profiles. 🙂
