I’ve tried a number of different contact add-ons to Gmail and this has been the most impressive so far. I love it because it is quick and efficient and doesn’t seem to slow Gmail down. Rapportive shows you everything about your contacts right inside your inbox. Its a free add-on for Firefox, Safari, Mailplane, and Chrome. If someone emails you, it will go find their Social Media Links and allow you join their different groups. Being able to make notes about someone in the bottom right is cool too. Great for reminders. I love it and highly recommend it.

How is this tool better than / different from GIST.com?
I think it is
I had a guy email me today using my nick name “Kat”. He said he got it from a Linkedin/Facebook plugin used by Gmail called “Rapportive”. Originally I started my Facebook account with my work email that was listed as private on Facebook. I changed that on or by the 21st of June 2011 and deleted it off my prviate contacts. This app today, associated that email from Facebook to tie me to my Linkedin profile and then I assume spammed my details through this plugin. I never accept those games or any Facebook app, that asks me to ‘allow’ permission to use my contact details. I never give a Facebook app permission to use my contact details…through this app though it looks like we have no choice! This app can take my private contact details to link me with other profiles. I didn’t give permission to do that.
Have you edited your profile with them or contacted them?
