Check out this episode of TEDTalks (video) at Stefana Broadbent: How the Internet enables intimacy – Stefana Broadbent (2009) –
I thought this was great info. I like the story and idea of using video and skype to share a dining table with loved ones far away, but still have dinner together.
TED is probably one of the heaviest things going, aside from Bono and “One.com” which is a whole ‘nother subject. TED is an amazing gathering, amazing people, but more than that, TED supplements the mediocre learning that is all over the place, masquerading as genuine learning, when in effect, it is nothing more than people being subjected to robotically oriented test passing. (Not sure robotically will make it as a word but I’m willing if Asimov is? Since he’s passed over, guess it’ll have to hang out as a keeper, huh?) The other place that seems pretty cool is over at the Harvard School of Businesswhere they are really jumping up and running with executive education. Alas my fear, however, is that it will be silver spoon fed gluck like the last twenty years, which has pretty much meted us the mess we are in now ni the U.S., which as Gordon of Britain points out is pretty much the way of the world. Well that ought to get you laughing for a while…l8tr amego’ – Dana

For years- like 10! I have repeatedly, said exactly the same things about this form of social interactive media! Be it to friends & Frands (Fan-friends) @shows or to a random anti-online-friends activist on the street car! lol! It´s all true…we sit down and have a drink together or watch them blow out the candles @the birthday party that was physically impossible to make! I have about 200 family members @facebook for example, who live on every end of this Globe…it is time wise and financially the only practical way of taking part in their everyday lives and events…and not just the usual “update” email on what´s been going on…the past 3 months, in summary…but, really seeing the pix and hearing the laughter and seeing the tans and suitcases still parked @the front door etc.. I am an absolutely radical activist if you will…of this medium, as en enrichment to and in, our lifes closest bonds.
